My name is Alexandra Anneke Asjes, but most people call me Alexa. I live in Los Angeles with my husband, our two kids, a dog and a cat. I love hosting events and parties that have personal touches, laughter, tears, elegance and a touch of silliness.
I have experienced a lot of death in my life, and I know how hard it is to live with the loss of the people we love. I started this company because I also know how important it is to gather, whether in an intimate or large group, to be together and celebrate, to laugh and to cry and to have joy for the life that was lived. I have lost grandparents, friends, pets, and extended family, but there are a few passings which have deeply changed me.
In 2007 my godfather died suddenly of a heart attack. My family lived abroad at the time, and so we never had a service or a Celebration of Life for him. In the years after, his death was very difficult for me to process. I've since come to understand that part of my pain was because I never had the closure I needed. I have learned how important it is to have closure with a service, a celebration, a gathering or a ceremony when we lose a loved one.
In 2016, we lost our baby girl at birth. We had a small ceremony and scattered her ashes by plane over the ocean. It was painful, but that closure helped me find the strength to go on. It can be very hard in the moment, but it is vitally important to say goodbye to those who have passed and to find a way to honor their life.
In 2022 my mother passed away a month after having a severe stroke. After a month of going through the stress of critical and hospice care, we weren't emotionally or logistically prepared for an immediate service. Instead we had a celebration of her life a year after her passing. It lasted two days and was a joyous gathering that allowed all of us to share stories of what an amazing woman she was. We cried, but we also laughed, ate well, played games and got to be together. She would have loved it.
My hope is to help you create a celebration for your loved one that feels personal, joyous, and heartfelt while still being respectful and tasteful, and allowing space for tears and sadness. I will be there to help arrange everything so you can focus on processing your loss instead of needing to think or worry about planning or logistics. I am here to help you find peace during one of the most difficult times of your life. Thank you for letting me be a part of such an important event.
